![]() Oh, and yes I can also see the perspective of the master key thing adding security, but that doesn't make it any less annoying Anyway, testing continues! If something goes south with 1Password now that they've been bought (turns into junk or the subscription gets doubled or something) at least I would still consider 1Password usable though. It seems more intuitive for people like them. Especially getting my parents onto one of these services in mind. I also like the organization better so far in the Lastpass vault and how things are laid out. Starting to think this is going to come down to Lastpass vs I need to try Bitwarden. I mean, the key works, but he still had to have that huge long key and wasn't happy about it. ![]() One of my co-workers who does a lot of our web security was also not happy about that since he's using an NFC key with it while trying it out. Needing to have the huge long master key available, or in this case having to look it up in the app on the phone and type it manually into my work PC's browser extension when I have 2FA setup is extremely annoying. So far, uh, not really all that impressed. So I finally got 1Password set up to compare last night. onto it, then have to go back in 6 months and swap everyone to something new because the new owners doubled the subscription prices or canceled the product or "insert other random event here". I don't want to jump into it, get my family etc. Just sharing what I found about them being acquired, and since I'm in the process of figuring out what product to even go with it might make sense for me to go with something else just due to the now uncertain future of where they might go. ![]() To be clear, I'm not trying to pick on them or anything. ![]() An example was even mentioned in one article about how Lastpass actually had a whole portfolio of products until Logmein acquired them a while ago. So, one article I read about the acquisition was talking about how when companies like this get bought out by private equity firms it tends to mean the end of their products or changes like price hikes, bad/poor maintenance and improvements to the products etc. Lastpass was the first I tried due to offering family plans but also having a totally free version that would allow me to test as long as I wanted. Basically trying a few out to figure out what to go with. To be clear, interesting as in you're thinking about LastPass, or?Īfter all, considering companies are investing, that's a good thing, no? But, one could be nervous about 'transitional change'.Not currently tied to any of them. ![]()
